A Civil War era, 1860 light cavalry sabre by Christopher Roby.  The guard is brass, with a leather covered handle, and double twisted wire wrap.  It still retains its original metal scabbard with 2 rings.  This example is dated 1865 and is stamped with a U.S. government inspector’s initials, on the blade and the scabbard.  C. Roby produced 32,500 of these sabres for the Union.

Condition: EXCELLENT untouched example – Blade retains much of its original mirror polish, with a few very minor nicks to the cutting edge, and some very light staining – All markings are clear – Guard has a nice mustard color patina with a complete leather grip and only minor losses to its finish – Wire wrap is intact – Scabbard has a good age patina with 3 dents – Pommel does not have any evidence of peening
